And You Should Do Them Too
It’s no secret that I love myself. I want to tell you that you can never love yourself too much and that’s why I have created this list. Because whatever it is that you do for your number one, you can always do more.
I do these things frequently, depending on what it is. Some daily, some once a week, some once a month. But the only important thing is that I do them.
So here it goes.
1. Floss your teeth.
It might sound trivial, and like a derrr thing, but so many people over look this and it should never be over looked. Flossing is important for your health, for your gums and your teeth. It’s also important for the people that have to look at you everyday. Unflossed teeth look really gross and can give the appearance that you don’t take care of yourself. And more importantly that you don’t love yourself. I prefer the little flossing sticks over regular string floss because the string is hard to hold. Easy as pie. Go floss.
2. Use lotion.
When I get out of the shower, I always slather lotion all over my body. At this point after doing it everyday for so long, if I don’t put it on I feel like my skin is going to break off in pieces. Literally, like those dry skin commercials. It keeps your skin nice and smooth and gives you a lovely glow. Focus on your elbows and knees because those parts get the most wear and tear. Also be sure to use another lotion to moisturize your face. My mom uses face lotion to the max and doesn’t have a single wrinkle at the ripe age of… mid-forties. (You’re welcome mom).
3. Buy yourself flowers.
I know I’ve said this before, but buying yourself flowers for no reason is such a wonderful way to make yourself feel special. Whether you’re celebrating a promotion, or just the fact that you really liked your outfit today. Go to the corner deli and spend the $5 or $10 that you’d otherwise spend on your lunch. Still eat lunch though. Put them on your desk at work or bring them home and put them on your kitchen table or night stand! I also like to cut one flower and put it in my bathroom.
4. Drink lots of water.
This should go without saying, stay hydrated!!! It is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Drinking lots of water everyday keeps you healthy and makes your skin look beautiful. In addition to drinking lots of water, exercise. You don’t have to do it everyday, but the more you exercise the better you’re going to feel about yourself.
5. Get a really nice pillow case.
I had an internship a few summers ago for a buying office in a home products department. It wasn’t until then that I realized I needed silk sheets. I had to do a presentation on a new category I thought they should carry. I did a ton of research on the benefits of silk. It keeps your hair from breaking, it’s amazing for your skin and it makes you feel luxurious. They can be a bit expensive for the whole set, but if you’re looking for something to splurge on at least get the pillowcase. I cringe when I have to sleep on cotton now, so prepare yourself for that too..
6. Paint your nails.
Having a nice manicure helps me to feel my best. Does anyone else notice chipped, bitten nails like I do? I hope not for your sake. You never know if your PC (Prince Charming) is looking at your nails as you grab your Caramel Macchiato from the Barista at Starbucks. Don’t you want your nails to help you look your best? Or if you hand the CEO of your dream company your card while you happen to be chatting with on him or her on the subway. Ok, ok enough examples. But especially if you’re wearing a bold color, make sure it looks presentable. As soon as it starts cracking off, take it off and repaint. I also like to get myself a new color if I’m having a not-so-great day as a little pick-me-up.
7. Get at least one make up product you love.
Make up can be expensive. We’re all in the same boat there. But when you find something that works for you, stick with it. I (almost) always regret straying away from my usual NARS/Mac routine, but sometimes I discover really great products! Go into Sephora and try a bunch of new things. The last I heard, the sales associates there don’t work off of commission, so they’re happy to help you experiment and don’t care if you buy everything or nothing that you try! The one thing in my make up routine that is a little more expensive than the rest is my mascara. I tried out Guerlain a few months back and I love it. Some people say expensive mascara is the same as drug store, but I notice a huge difference in the wear and quality of it. Anyways, whether it’s a special blush or lip gloss, having at least one really wonderful product that you love is important to make you feel like a glam goddess!
8. Take YOU time.
Last but not least, always make a little time for you. If you enjoy reading, take 30 minutes, or an hour if you have it to spare, and spending doing what you love. Flip through magazines or the newspaper. If you love cooking, take some time to think out a few recipes that you want to try in the near future. Go on Pinterest and pin some outfits you want to try and recreate or make up tips you want to try out. Doing special things for yourself is the ultimate reminder how great you are and that you need to always need to put yourself first.
If you have any ways that you like to remind yourself how great you are, please share them! Like I said, you can never love yourself too much, so spread the love!!
