Visits from this little one are always fun. In the last 12 years, they’ve changed dramatically. From having a hard time signing her into my dorm at 3 without a state ID, to trying to keep roommates quiet when she was at that ‘I’m awake and I don’t care if it’s 4am, you’re awake too’ age. As she’s gotten older, things we do in the city have become much more my speed.
She used to visit with my mom and they’d go to candy stores and FAO Schwarz, and to find new book stores. Now that she’s a bit older, and kind of likes shopping, I figured, what kid wouldn’t want to go school shopping in New York City?!

Dress: Zara
Boots: Rag & Bone
Necklage & Tote: Kemi Designs
Bag: Proenza Schouler
So I wore a shop-friendly outfit. A minidress with easy on/off boots to make fitting rooms a breeze. I even thought ahead and brought a tote for the heavy things or when my hands couldn’t hold anymore. 🙂 But onto the one that’s actually going back to school..

We started off with breakfast at her favorite place, Max Brenner. I can’t say I hated it. Then gallivanted around the city hitting all the best stores for school shopping on a budget. First, Forever 21. Totally cute skirts and tees, and maybe even a few things for me! Angel emoji. Mom’s credit card.
Next we hit Nordstrom Rack and H&M. More fab things and a shoe change, in case you didn’t notice. Grabbed a cab and headed home to get ready for dinner.
Quick rooftop photo shoot.
Dinner at The Smith is always relish, and with my girl and my friends, what more could I ask for? Oh, dad’s credit card? Double angel emoji.
And for dessert, her second favorite thing to do in NYC, order Insomnia Cookies. Can’t say I hate that either.
Hope you all have a great school year, or if you’re not going back to school, let’s make it a great end to the summer! Even though I still get asked what grade I’m in from time to time, I’ll use that as an excuse to continue my back to school shopping for a few more weeks.
